Throw Down® 101
Throw Down®, slowed down. Every routine is broken apart step by step, questions are welcome, and nobody is expected to already know it.
- Beginner Friendly
- Moderate Intensity
We suggest this class to beginners or clients looking for additional broken-down Throw Down® routines. We break down each routine to help you better understand the choreography. Ask questions and get more comfortable before jumping into a regular Throw Down® class!
The difference is pace, not content. You are learning the same routines the regular class runs — the same songs, the same combinations — but here they get taken apart. Sections are taught in small pieces, repeated slowly, layered back together, and run again. If a transition isn’t landing, we stop and do it again. That is the class working, not the class falling behind.
Questions are actively expected. Asking which foot starts, or to see a count one more time, is normal here in a way it isn’t once the playlist is running. Most people find that a handful of 101 classes is enough to stop feeling lost, and after that the choreography starts arriving faster than you expect.
You do not need any dance background. Plenty of people arrive having never taken a class of any kind, and the format is built for exactly that — you will not be singled out, put on the spot, or asked to perform anything alone. Everyone in the room is here because they wanted the slower version.
It still counts as a workout. The routines are the same cardio-heavy hip-hop combinations, so even at teaching pace you will be warm, moving and glad of the water bottle. Bring one, plus a towel and shoes with enough support to pivot in.
There is no fixed point at which you are supposed to move on. Some people take 101 for a month and never come back; others have been in it for a year because they like learning the choreography properly and are in no hurry. Both are fine, and neither needs explaining.
When the routines start feeling automatic, come and try Throw Down® proper. Many people keep doing both — 101 to learn the new material, the main class to run it at full tilt.
