Mat Pilates
A full-body, low-impact mat class blending Pilates-inspired movement with core work, mobility and balance. All levels, with modifications and progressions throughout.
- All Levels
- Low Intensity
Get ready to strengthen, sculpt and move with intention. This full-body mat pilates class combines controlled, pilates-inspired movements with focused core work, mobility, balance and flexibility. Expect a mix of flowing sequences, pulses, holds and strength-focused exercises designed to challenge your muscles while keeping things low-impact and accessible. Suitable for all fitness levels, modifications and progressions will be provided.
Moving with intention is the part that makes this class what it is. Everything is done slowly and deliberately, with the muscle you are working staying under tension rather than swinging through a rep. That sounds gentle on paper and turns out not to be — small, controlled movements performed with real attention are demanding in a way that surprises most people on their first visit.
The core work goes deeper than the muscles you can see. Pilates-inspired movement targets the deep stabilisers wrapped around your spine and pelvis — the ones holding you upright all day that rarely get trained directly. Strengthening them is why people walk out standing taller, and why students often find long-standing lower back niggles quieten down after a few weeks.
A session moves between flowing sequences that link movements together, holds that ask you to stay in a shape longer than feels comfortable, and pulses in a very small range of motion. Mobility and balance work runs through all of it, so alongside the strength you get joints that move more freely and a steadier sense of where your body is in space.
Nothing is high-impact and nothing is rushed. That makes it a class you can take on a day when your joints are complaining, or alongside the harder end of the schedule without digging yourself a hole. Modifications are offered throughout for tighter hamstrings, sensitive necks or anyone building back up after a break, and progressions are there whenever an exercise stops feeling like enough — beginners and regulars work comfortably in the same room.
It complements almost everything else we run. The core control and hip stability you build here transfers straight into Barre Sculpt and into how well you hold your posture through the dance classes.
Bring a mat if you have one, water, and grip socks or bare feet. Wear something reasonably close-fitting so the instructor can see your alignment and cue you properly.
